Week #22

Learning Log for Week of February 15th - 19th

My favorite thing this week was learning was going to wheeler farm.  I like the warm weather and that we can go outside and seeing all the animals.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked in brain pop.  I worked on science.  I watched a video on food chains, nature, and science projects.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my Lesson #12.  It was on reducing fractions by finding the greatest common factor. My favorite thing is to find the factors.  My mom and I did a review with the CD on the lesson 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12...adding/subtracting, multiplying, and dividing by fractions is kind of tricky and I wanted to get extra practice.

English/Language Arts:

In Leadership Academy, I had a writing assignment on the adjoining countries of my imaginary world, Emmatopia. I finished Voyage of the Dawn Treader and am now doing to start The Silver Chair. This week we finished Little House in the Big Woods.  We learned how Pa hunts and how they did the harvest for the next year.  We went to Wheeler Farm to look at the animals and to see some of the tractors and to see if we could see a thresher machine.  My favorite animal was a baby goat named "Cricket."

Science:

This week we talked more about birds.  We talked about the beaks and the feet of birds.  We did a test were we put different things on a plate like rice, peanuts, pasta, and chocolate chips.  We then took different tools like a tweezers, spoon, fingers, and scissors.  We talked about how the different feet and beaks help each bird adapt to their environment.

History/Geography:

We are learning about Japan this month in our country studies.  One of my favorite things is the origami.  We got to make different origami and try out some different foods like sushi.  I thought sushi was okay.

Tech:

This week we are learning about the rule of thirds.  It's where you look at an object and take a picture and then you take a few morning to see which one you like and the different things about it.

Choir:

I tried out for my solo this week.  I was really excited and nervous.  I tried out for "When I Grow Up" and "America the Beautiful."

Dance:

We are still practicing our recital dance and working on our technique. We are adding a lot more turns to our dance for our recital. We got to pick our our dance costumes.  It's a pink tutu and then we each got to pick a different sash color and mine is a deep aqua.  I am excited.
