Week #18

Learning Log for Week of January 18th - January 22nd

My favorite thing this week was the report I did on Martin Luther King Jr.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on khan academy.  I worked on art history in Khan Academy. The Art History was on Mesopotamian Art, I watched two videos and took a quiz on it.

Math:

This week in Math I finished my Lesson #8 and took my test and then my unit test.  I am working on learning that in order to compare or combine you must be the same kind.  It was learning how to add multiple fractions.

English/Language Arts:

We are still working on our unit on Little House in the Big Woods.  We read about two bears story where Laura used a lantern to go out to the barn with her Ma.  So we made homemade lanterns.  We took old cans and then we drew a pattern and then put it on the can and drilled holes in the tin for the light to come through.  We learned about the literary elements of setting, plot, theme, characters, and style.

Science:

This week in science we are still learning about vertebrates.  We learned about the Komodo Dragon and how it is the worlds largest lizard.  We also learned that it is endangered.  I then did a report on an animal that is or was on the endangered list.  I choose the maned three toed sloth.  My favorite thing that I learned about the sloth is that because they are the world's slowest moving animal...there is algae that actually grows on their fur and it is helpful to camouflage in the trees.

History/Geography:

In History we learned more about our Egypt Unit and about Egyptian Mythology.  One of my favorite myths was how we got 365 days.  In Geography we are learning about Asia and we starting learning about lithospheres.  I am doing a geography report on India, so I worked on my map to show the different elements on the land of India.

Tech:
In my digital photography class I have been taking photos of my baby brother and different things that are happening. I like to do different setting and try things out that I have learned.  I really liked doing the mid year art how.

Choir:

We are working on our Spring Show.  The song we worked on this week was "Love is an Open Door" from Disney's Frozen Movie. We learned to sing with our mouths shaped like a bell, with our upper lip curved and our bottom a more oval shape.

Dance:

This week in dance I worked more on my turns and spins.  I am working on my flexibility and on getting down my more advance turns. I got to learn a combination that our teacher might put into our recital.

Week #16

Learning Log for Week of January 4th - January 8th

My favorite thing this week was using my new "little passports"

activity that I got for christmas.

Homeroom:

This week for homeroom I worked on brain pop.  I helped my brother with some games he had trouble understanding so he could learn more about the site and achieve his learning skills. I like helping him learn, because sometimes I learn something new.

Math:

This week in Math I started my Epsilon Math Book with Math-U-See. I have finished Lesson 1-6, some of it was new and some of it was review.  I like how it's challenging and easy to learn with my fraction overlays.

English/Language Arts:

I finished my Through the Wardrobe Class and took my test and finished the class with honors.  I started my new semester last week and we are reading Prince Caspian. It's different than the other book Narnia books it seems so far. I read a lot over the break from The Wonder, Princess Academy, and some of my old Nancy Drew books.  We also started doing a unit with my family  on studying Little House in the Big Woods.

Science:

We did a lot of fun experiments over the break.  We built a volcano and talked about the different volcanos around the world and the different rocks that come from it.  We learned about Slim and made our own homemade slim.  For my birthday I got science goggles and science coat that I am excited to use in my science experiments.  My brother got a microscope for Christmas so we have been trying out different things to put under the microscope.  We studied axolotls and other amphibians. For Christmas my brothers and I got crates that come in the mail once a mail.  This month we worked on our "arcade" crate and I built a wooden arcade claw. We got another crate that was about "shadow and light."  It is sometimes hard to built and set up the experiments, but I really like it.

History/Geography:

In History we learned more about our Egypt Unit. And in Geography we learned about the Earth's Hydrosphere. We got little passports for Christmas and we got to learn about Brazil.  I am excited for next month's package to come, it is going to be on Japan.

Tech:

My digital photography class assignment was to work on Holiday Lights. I had to worked on the different lighting of Christmas lights, the lights that are on during the day and other at night. This was my favorite assignment so far.  We also had to turn in our favorite photo for mid-year review.  This is my favorite photo of my baby brother, Griffin.

Choir:

This week in my choir we started working on our Spring Performance. We are going to be singing "Love is an Open Door" and the Beatles song "She Loves You."  I am excited to learn new songs and perform again.

Dance:

This week in dance  I learned about parquets turns.  I was able to go the Nutcracker over the holiday break and I loved it!  I want to try out next year for a part, I have a friend in one of my classes that was a toy solider in Ballet West's Nutcracker this year.
